"The Mennonite DNA Project"
March 15, 2009; 2:30 p.m.
Zion Mennonite Church
Dr. Tim Janzen will speak on "The Mennonite DNA Project" on March 15, 2009; 2:30 p.m. at Zion Mennonite Church, 6124 S. Whiskey Hill Road, Hubbard, Oregon. Dr Janzen will have information on both Russian Mennonite ancestry and Swiss Mennonite ancestry. There will be time for questions and giving DNA samples. Bring a copy of your pedigree chart or bring your laptop computer if you already have your ancestral data in a genealogy program. Come prepared to learn and to participate in this genealogy project.
Linda Rush, an MMN missionary to Colombia will be speaking at Sunday services at Portland Mennonite Church on Sunday, November 23. It will be preceeded on Saturday, Nov. 22, by a movie night on the Colombia Free Trade Agreement, where Linda will share about her work in Colombia.

Gerald Shenk a professor of church and society at Eastern Mennonite Seminary who has studied in California, Chicago and Eastern Europe, with a focus on religion and conflict in society. Since moving to Virginia in 1989, he has frequently returned to the Balkans for peace and theological education efforts. His research includes generosity, social transformation, Christian peacemaking and the dramas of religious pluralism. His 2003 sabbatical in Jerusalem focused on civic dimensions of inter-faith encounters. A recent journey to Iran brought him into contact with top theological and political leaders there including President Ahmadinejad.
